Metametrix Clinical Laboratory has been a leader in the assessment of nutrition and metabolism since 1984 and is fully licensed to accept specimens
from every state in the USA as well as internationally. Metametrix is regularly inspected by the Department of Health and Human Services for CLIA (Clinical
Laboratory Improvement Amendments) licensure and by the Georgia Department of Human Resources for its Clinical Laboratory License. Their expert staff includes
Ph.D.'s, registered nurses, and clinical nutritionists who were all involved in researching, developing, and documenting the science behind the Ideal Health concept.
How long have they been testing?
The laboratory has been performing metabolic testing for thousands of nutritionally-oriented physicians and other healthcare professionals from
around the world since 1984.
Who runs the lab? Who is Dr. Bralley?
J. Alexander Bralley, Ph.D., is the chief scientist and founder of Metametrix. Dr. Bralley started MetaMetrix in 1984 as a specialty laboratory
to fulfill the needs of clinicians desiring sophisticated metabolic testing with a nutritional application. Dr. Bralley received his BS in Biology from
the University of Illinois in 1975 and his Doctorate in Medical Sciences from the University of Florida College of Medicine in 1980.
What are his qualifications? What articles has Dr. Bralley himself published?
Dr. Bralley has spent his professional career managing and expanding a commercial metabolic testing laboratory for a client database
of thousands of doctors from around the world who use nutritional medicine in their practices. Despite the demands of
running a commercial clinical laboratory, Dr. Bralley has continued his research and publications. They include:
Bralley, JA, and Lord, R. Treatment of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome with Specific Amino Acid Supplementation. Journal of Applied Nutrition, 1994;46:3.
Bland, JS, and Bralley, JA. Nutritional Upregulation of Hepatic Detoxication Enzymes. Journal of Applied Nutrition. 1992;44:2-15.
In conjunction with his research staff, Dr. Bralley has written three chapters for the latest edition of the Textbook of Natural Medicine published in 1999.
Organic Compounds in Urine: Metabolic Profiling to Assess Functional Nutrient Deficiencies, Gut Dysbiosis, and Toxicity.
Clinical Applications of Fatty Acid Profiling.
Testing for Toxic Metal- and Chemical-Induced
Porphyrinuria.
Dr. Bralley and Dr. Lord co-authorized Laboratory Evaluations in Molecular Medicine: Nutrients, Toxicants, and Cell Regulators in 2001.
Dr. Bralley's real-world, consulting experiences with the doctors using his laboratory testing on thousands of patients world-wide and the valuable feedback
from those doctors on patient responses has been incorporated into the Ideal Health concept. Also, as mentioned above, Dr. Bralley's research staff of Ph.D.'s
from several disciplines continuously studies the most recent research literature to stay abreast of pertinent research findings.
What other experience does the lab have in customized nutrition?
In 1992, Dr. Bralley began to use his clinical laboratory experience in the area of sports nutrition. He developed the ION program (Individualized Optimal Nutrition), a testing panel of approximately 150 metabolic markers in blood and urine. Clients who have been tested on the ION program include:

Georgia Institute of Technology Varsity Student Athletes.
Players on professional teams such as the Chicago Cubs, the Seattle Mariners, and the Oakland Raiders.
Top PGA golfers including past winners of the Masters, the British Open, and the U.S. Open.
